The manga series "Issho ni Gohan o Taberu dake" (roughly "Just Eating Together") by Omachi Terrace is getting a live-action adaptation. As announced by publisher Kodansha and broadcaster TV Tokyo, the love story about two unhappily married people will air as a weekly drama series starting in July 2026. The lead roles are played by Akari Hayami and Kentaro Ito—for both, this marks their first leading role in a TV Tokyo production.

The plot revolves around Sawada Taki (Hayami), a cooking instructor whose husband shows no interest in her passion for good food. She lacks appreciation and feels increasingly empty. In parallel, magazine editor Saito Rei (Ito) struggles with his family's daily life: his wife constantly serves frozen food, and his desire to provide home-cooked meals for his vegetable-eating daughter is ignored. The two meet in a cooking class—and begin secretly cooking and eating together. What starts as a harmless business relationship develops into a dangerous closeness. "Just eating together—nothing more must happen, or it's off to hell," is the inner conflict of the protagonists.

The source material comes from Omachi Terrace and was serialized from August 2024 to January 2026 in the digital magazine Comic Days. The four-volume series has been praised for its sensitive portrayal of emotional and ethical dilemmas. Producer Urushima Koichi from TV Tokyo emphasizes that the series deliberately blurs genre boundaries between gourmet and infidelity relationship drama: "The characters aren't enemies, but their values regarding food are incompatible. It's precisely the small moments of happiness—cooking together, saying 'delicious'—that make the attraction so painfully beautiful."

In addition to the lead actors, the scripts are written by Aoki Miho ("Taigan no Kaji") and Shudo Rin ("Hiraite"), with direction by Yoshino Shu ("Yuru Camp"), Ogawa Dan, and Inoue Yusuke. The music is composed by Koyama Erina. Filming is done by Office Crescendo in co-production with TV Tokyo.

The broadcast begins on July 2, 2026, at 24:00 (local time) on TV Tokyo and partner stations TV Aichi, TV Setouchi, TV Hokkaido, and TVQ Kyushu. BS TV Tokyo follows from July 7. Immediately after the linear broadcast, episodes will be available exclusively on U-NEXT for streaming; free replays are offered on TVer. To celebrate the adaptation, Omachi Terrace released a specially drawn illustration.

Akari Hayami, known from "Shin Ultraman" and the series "Urelo," is enthusiastic: "I personally place great importance on food and could immediately empathize with Taki's feelings. It will be a story where each viewer, depending on their own experiences, develops sympathy for different characters." Kentaro Ito, who was recently seen in "Hikaru Kimi e" and "Ryakudatsu Datsukon," adds: "The mix of pleasure and taboo immediately appealed to me. I hope viewers will cheer along with growling stomachs."
