"Embers": New Sportmanga starts in the "Weekly Shonen Jump" - Rebell meets football

From now on, the manga series Embers by author Kuruma Sakigake (story) and artist Saito Nishii (art) enriches the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump. The premiere of the work took place in issue No. 10 of the magazine, which was released on February 3, 2024. At the center is the teenage protagonist Noboru Haitani, a moderately shy student who prefers to stand out in fights rather than in class.

The plot picks up speed when a nearly 60-year-old teacher recognizes Haitani's fighting talent and challenges him to a soccer duel. Despite Haitani's invincibility in physical confrontations, he loses to the experienced educator—a defeat that increasingly fuels his passion for team sports. Embers promises an unusual mix of rebellious character drama and playful sports development, in which an "outlaw" challenges the rules of soccer.

Parallel to the series launch, a visually dynamic cover was released, showing Haitani in a typically conflict-ridden pose. Additionally, Mitsuki Ishikawa's fantasy series Hakutaku ends in the same issue, while the next issue (No. 11, released on February 10) will introduce the sci-fi manga B no Seisen by Mamoru Hayashi.
