Experimental animation project Blue Gale Xabungle Side L announced

The Sunrise Robot Laboratory, a platform dedicated to exploring iconic mecha designs and narrative concepts from Sunrise productions, presents its latest project: Blue Gale Xabungle Side L. The experimental video, set to release in May, reimagines the opening and ending sequences of the classic series Combat Mecha Xabungle (1982) using contemporary technology and visual techniques.

The laboratory's initiative, launched in 2024, focuses on creatively revisiting historic mecha works. Following two projects centered on Aura Battler Dunbine, this latest effort pays homage to Yoshiyuki Tomino (Mobile Suit Gundam), who served as general director and concept creator for Xabungle. The released teaser trailer already hints at a dynamic fusion of retro aesthetics and modern digital animation.

The original series, set in a harsh desert world and revolving around conflicts between settlers and nomadic traders, is considered a milestone in the development of the "Real Robot" genre. The project aims to captivate both longtime fans and new audiences through innovative visual storytelling.
