Experimental animation series for Blue Gale Xabungle with new music

A new experimental animation series titled BLUE GALE XABUNGLE SIDE R will be released this fall. This production is led by the Sunrise Robot Kenkyujo (Sunrise Robot Research Institute), an initiative focused on creative reinterpretations of classic mecha designs and narratives. It is the second part of a series, following the release of BLUE GALE XABUNGLE SIDE L in May 2025.

The series follows a concept of "reinterpretation from alternative perspectives." SIDE R deliberately relies on the creative visions of younger animation artists, who further develop the original work through contemporary aesthetics and storytelling methods. A particular focus lies on the depiction of the dynamic energy and vitality (Bītaritī) that characterizes the original's plot.

To enhance this expressive intensity, the project collaborates with the idol group Hōkago Kuraimakkusu Gāruzu (After School: Climax Girls) from the franchise The Idolmaster Shiny Colors. The group contributes specially composed theme songs, whose energetic vocals and rhythmic structure are meant to emphasize the action-packed atmosphere of the animation sequences. This collaboration highlights the thematic connection between the series' untamed spirit and the artistic ethos of the idols.

Blue Gale Xabungle (original title: Sentō Meka Zabunguru) is a robot series from 1982, created under the overall direction of Yoshiyuki Tomino. The plot takes place on the fictional, devastated planet Zola – a post-apocalyptic version of Earth. It features "Walker Machines," mechanical combat units powered by gasoline engines and steering wheels. The story follows the young protagonist Jiron Amos, who rebels against the social principle of the "Three-Day Rule" (every crime expires after three days) and thus comes into conflict with the ruling caste of the Innocents.
