At the end of the streamed Hiro Mashima Fan Meeting @ Mixalive Tokyo event, it was announced that the sequel manga Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest by Hiro Mashima and Atsuo Ueda will serve as the inspiration for a TV anime.

While details of the series are not yet known, a teaser trailer has already been released.

The mangaka Atsuo Ueda started the sequel on the web magazine Pocket in July 2018, about a year after Hiro Mashima finished his original manga Fairy Tail.

Kodansha published the manga in English and describes the plot as follows:

Natsu, Lucy, Happy, Erza and the whole Fairy Tail Guild are back in action! And they have decided to tackle the "100 Years Quest" - a task that no one has attempted since the guild was founded more than a century ago. A mysterious city, an enigmatic ghost, a gruesome new enemy ... and a brand new continent to explore. When you are with real friends, the adventures never stop!
