Film adaptation of the quiz manga "Quiztopia" for Netflix announced

A new series based on a Japanese manga will be available exclusively on the streaming service Netflix. The project titled "Quiztopia" is based on a work by the authors Ryoichi Sugimoto and Nobuyoshi Kato.

The plot is set in a fictional Japan, where the results of an extremely popular television quiz format have a direct influence on national politics and legislation. This unusual premise forms the framework for the story being told.

The live-action adaptation is directed by Teruyuki Yoshida. Yoshida has extensive experience directing television series. The screenplay was developed by Maggy in collaboration with director Yoshida. The lead actor was also involved in this creative process.

The role of the charismatic quizmaster, who is at the center of the plot, is played by Takayuki Yamada. Yamada is a versatile actor known in Japan for his transformative performances.

The underlying manga was originally published in the early 1990s. Due to ongoing demand from fans, a reissue of the story was carried out in the past.

This production is part of a broader strategy by the streaming service in Japan. An extensive program of local content, including series and animation productions, has been announced for the year 2026.
