The appearance of a mysterious pillar in the Pacific marks the beginning of the Great Cataclysm. While Kurono receives the order to defeat the Titan, Faerie critically observes the efforts and identifies Sho as the "Third Pillar". The severely injured Shinra appears in free fall; Ogun convinces Captain Pan to rescue him despite Karin's reservations about the 8th Company. After the rescue, Shinra, Sho, and Faerie disappear. Faerie explains to Sho his ability to control gravity by manipulating Adolla Bursts, expresses regret over his failed role as Sho's protector, and announces the beginning of the Great Cataclysm.

In parallel, Yona reveals in a flashback his origin as a being from Adolla 250 years ago: He recounts how, after the failed first Cataclysm, he met Raffles Smith, entrusted him with the girl Amaterasu (a bearer of an Adolla Burst), and thereby initiated the founding of the Holy Sol Temple. This temple used Amaterasu to rebuild civilization and create connections (pillars) to Adolla.

Shinra awakens through an Adolla connection with Inca, who informs him about the begun but uncertain Cataclysm. She advises him to use super speed to travel to the past in order to understand the future and prophesies that he will take her with him. Shinra accelerates with Inca beyond light speed and travels to the time before the first Cataclysm, where they observe a news report about the emergence of a "fifth pillar".
