The creators of the anime adaptation of Rieko Hinata and Akihiro Yamada's fantasy novel series "Fire Hunter" (Hikari no Ō) have announced that the second season is set to air in January 2024.

In addition to most of the 16 members of the original cast, Manaka Iwami, who will voice the artificial star Yururuho / Sennen Suisei, and M.A.O, who takes on the role of Ruri Matsuri, a deity with the ability to manipulate plants, are joining.

The creative team also includes Junji Nishimura, who will direct the anime for the production studio Signal.MD. Renowned filmmaker Mamoru Oshii is also on board to oversee and write the scripts.

"Fire Hunter" is set in a bleak world recovering from a catastrophic event known as the Last War, introducing a land covered by a dangerous forest full of flame-wielding creatures and other threatening beasts. The people living in isolated settlements are constantly under threat from an extraordinary weapon from the Last War that causes them to burst into flames. The world's only reliable energy source comes from the bodies of these flaming creatures, so it is the task of specialized hunters, called Fire Hunters, to venture into the forests to hunt them.

The story revolves around Tōko, a girl from a paper-making town who finds herself in danger in the forbidden forest and is rescued by a Fire Hunter. Meanwhile, in the capital, a boy named Kōshi protects his younger sister after their mother falls victim to industrial poisoning. The legend of the "Fire Hunter Lord" also plays a major role, prophesied to harness the energy of a rare thousand-year comet, the "Wandering Spark."
