First look: Meikyū no Shiori announces film release

The first materials for the upcoming original anime Meikyū no Shiori (Labyrinth Bookmark) have been released. Directed by Shōji Kawamori (known for Macross), the production is scheduled for January 2026 and combines futuristic elements with everyday technology as well as psychological and musical influences.

At the center of the story is high school student Shiori Maezawa, whose life takes a dramatic turn when her smartphone breaks. Suddenly, she finds herself in a deserted, parallel version of Yokohama. Strange social media posts from an unknown doppelgänger appear on the damaged device. To escape this digital identity, Shiori must fight her way through a surreal smartphone labyrinth.

As first impressions, a teaser image was released, showing Shiori against the silhouette of Yokohama as she is pulled into her smartphone, as well as a preview video. This presents scenes from Shiori's school life, the decisive moment of the broken device, and her encounters with fantastical beings, including a pink rabbit and flying figures in a rocket-equipped environment. The released materials thus provide an atmospheric preview of the visually and narratively unusual journey between the digital and real worlds.
