The anime adaptation of the manga by Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe, "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" (Sōsō no Frieren), released its key visual this Wednesday, created by character designer Reiko Nagasawa and concept artist Seiko Yoshioka. The image reflects the cover of the first volume of the manga.

The anime series will premiere on September 29 with a two-hour special—an unusual move for a TV anime, setting it apart from typical programming. This premiere will mark the first anime series for NTV's "Kinyō Roadshow," which is usually known for feature films. The regular broadcast of episodes is scheduled for October in a new anime time slot on NTV.

"Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" follows the story of the elven mage Frieren, who embarks on a journey to understand the meaning of life after defeating the Demon King, outliving her former companions. The anime promises a profound exploration of mortality, community, and the continuity of life. Atsumi Tanezaki will voice Frieren, with additional cast members including Nobuhiko Okamoto, Hiroki Touchi, and Yōji Ueda.

The production team includes Keiichirō Saitō as director, Tomohiro Suzuki as script supervisor, Reiko Nagasawa as character designer, and Evan Call as music composer. Other contributors to the project are Daiki Harashina, Toru Iwasawa, Sawako Takagi, Shinji Sugiyama, Harue Ono, Shigenori Hirozumi, Akane Fushihara, Kashiko Kimura, and Shōji Hata.

Yamada and Abe first serialized their manga in April 2020 in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine, with the 11th volume currently in circulation. The manga has received numerous awards and nominations, highlighting its influential role in the genre. It was also included in the American Library Association's Graphic Novels & Comics Round Table (GNCRT) Top Ten list of Best Graphic Novels for Adults in 2022.
