A first promotional video has been released for the anime "Futsutsuka na Akujo de wa Gozaimasu ga ~Sūgū Chōso Torikae Den~" (Though I Am an Inept Villainess: Tale of the Butterfly-Rat Body Swap in the Maiden Court). It not only shows new impressions of the series but also reveals four additional voice actors and the broadcast slot.

The fantasy romance, based on a light novel series by Satsuki Nakamura, will begin airing in July 2026 on TV Tokyo and its affiliate stations in Japan. Originally, a premiere in April of the same year was planned, but the start had to be postponed due to production delays.

Joining the already known main cast of Manaka Iwami as Kou Reirin and Natsumi Kawaida as Shu Keigetsu are four additional prominent voice actors. Makoto Furukawa takes on the role of Ei Gyōmei, Yuichiro Umehara voices Shin’u. Furthermore, Hana Hishikawa as Ririi and Farahnaz Nikray as Kō Tōsetsu were announced.

The involved voice actors expressed their enthusiasm about their respective roles in initial comments. Makoto Furukawa, who portrays Ei Gyōmei, described working on the character as challenging but rewarding. Yuichiro Umehara is looking forward to portraying the capable and loyal official Shin’u. Hana Hishikawa, who voices Ririi, emphasized her joy at being able to support the strong protagonist Reirin. Farahnaz Nikray, who lends her voice to Kō Tōsetsu, expressed happiness about the role of the devoted and unexpectedly strong-willed servant.

The story is set in a realm reminiscent of historical China and follows the delicate and clever Kou Reirin. After the unpopular Shu Keigetsu holds a grudge against her, the two women mysteriously swap bodies. Reirin awakens in a dungeon, while Keigetsu takes her place at court. What initially seems like a disaster turns out to be an opportunity for Reirin, as in her new, robust body she can navigate the intrigues of palace life in a whole new way.

Mitsue Yamazaki directs the production at Studio Dōga Kōbō. Yoshiko Nakamura is responsible for series composition, and Ai Kikuchi designs the characters. The music is composed by Yukari Hashimoto.
