Gachiakuta - Episode 1

In a world where carefully treated objects develop a soul, discarded trash is considered worthless waste – an attitude that also prevails toward the slum dwellers despised as the "tribe people." Rudo, a boy living in the slum, collects and repairs discarded items. For this, he is hunted by city dwellers and even shunned by other slum dwellers, both because of his work as a "trash collector" and because of his mysteriously black hands and the fact that he is the son of a murderer banished to the "Pit." His few allies are his caring foster father Regto, who warns him of the dangers of trash collecting, and Chiwa, to whom he secretly gifts a repaired cloth doll.

The situation escalates when Rudo finds Regto severely injured in their home. Before Regto dies, he begs Rudo to flee. The "Apostles" – the city’s enforcers – arrive immediately, arrest Rudo, and accuse him of murder, even though he protests his innocence and points to a fleeing culprit. In an unfair trial, Rudo is sentenced to death solely based on his background and occupation, cheered on by the furious crowd. Even Chiwa turns away from him in disappointment. Rudo is banished to the "Pit," an abyss that serves as the final dumping ground for the city’s trash and for convicted criminals. He awakens in this strange, foul-smelling environment – the fateful place that has swallowed his father and now him.
