Enjin contacts Zanka and announces the recruitment of a new, talented find from the No Man's Land named Rudo for the cleaning squad. Rudo, who was unwilling and kidnapped, is treated by the doctor Alice, who makes it clear to him how life-threatening the air in the No Man's Land was.

Enjin explains the basics of life on the ground to Rudo: Emotions, called "Anima", manifest themselves in energy and create trash beasts, which can only be defeated with "Vital Instruments" – objects charged with Anima through long-term care. People who can use this power are called "Givers". Enjin reveals that Rudo's gloves are such a Vital Instrument and recruits him for the cleaning squad, although he himself does not know how to get back to the Sphere; however, their leader might have that information.

During a subsequent argument over stolen money, a conflict arises between Rudo and Zanka, a member of the cleaning squad, who introduces himself as Rudo's new instructor. The argument quickly escalates into a fight, in which Rudo unintentionally reveals his unique ability: to temporarily transform any object he touches into a Vital Instrument, which even extends to a plunger.

Enjin interrupts the fight and introduces another cleaner named Riyo. Finally, they set out together for the cleaning squad's headquarters.
