Rudo is greeted at the headquarters of the cleaning squad by the receptionist Semiu. With her vital instrument glasses, she analyzes his potential and confirms his athletic predisposition and his connection to his gloves, but notes that his abilities are still unstable.

Enjin leads Rudo further and explains the size and structure of the squad. When trying to meet the leader to get information about ascending to the sphere, it turns out that he is away. Since Rudo can officially only join after the leader's approval, Riyo suggests that he accompany them as a trainee on a mission.

Semiu explains the mission: the elimination of trash beasts near a city in the polluted zone. She explains to Rudo the geography of the land, which is divided into safe zones and toxic "polluted zones" inhabited by trash beasts, with the "no-man's lands" being the most dangerous.

During the mission, Rudo observes how the cleaners work as a team. The supporters without powers weaken the beasts so that the givers like Riyo with their vital instruments – in her case a scissor that she controls with her feet – can deliver the final blow. The mission is interrupted by the appearance of an unusual, resilient trash beast that cannot be defeated by conventional attacks with vital instruments.

Rudo, motivated not to be an obstacle, intervenes, but cannot reliably activate his power. Gris, one of the supporters, urges him to learn from them and not to lose sight of his goal. Riyo finally defeats the beast by piercing its core, which surprisingly turns out to be another vital instrument – a disturbing and inexplicable discovery.
