For the TV anime series "Ghost in the Shell THE GHOST IN THE SHELL" based on the manga by Masamune Shirow, the episode visual and scene images for Episode 5 "Phantom Fund" have been released. The artwork is by graphic designer Daiya Tanabe (maxilla) and continues the series of alternative posters that reflect the concept and themes of each episode. Previously, visuals were designed by Kano Kameda (Episode 2) and Akira Gunji (Episode 3), among others.

The plot of Episode 5 leads Kusanagi and her team to the north to observe the combat cyborg Koil Krasnov. To uncover his true goal and the corruption behind the expansion of Sagawa Electronics' underground factory, Kusanagi infiltrates the company headquarters while Batou and the rest of the unit storm the underground facility. The episode thus ties into the previous one, in which a series of incidents where robots attacked humans led the team to the manufacturer Hanka Seiki.

The series has been airing since July 7, 2026, on Tuesdays at 11:00 PM in the newly established time slot "火アニバル!!" ("Ka-Ani-Bal!!") on the Kansai TV and Fuji TV network. Episode 5 will air on August 4, 2026; Prime Video offers it the same day from 11:30 PM in the flat-rate subscription as the fastest streaming start, with other services following from August 5 at 11:30 PM.

The new series is animated by Science SARU and is the latest anime adaptation of Masamune Shirow's manga, which has been serialized in "Young Magazine Pirate Edition" since 1989. Direction is by Moko-chan; previously, Moko-chan was involved in "Dandadan," "Scott Pilgrim Takes Off," and "The Heike Story," and this series marks the first directorial work. Series composition and scripts are handled by Akutagawa Prize-winning SF author Toh EnJoe, with character designs and overall animation direction by Shuhei Handa. Motoko Kusanagi is voiced by Maaya Sakamoto, Batou by Hiroki Yasumoto; other roles include Kazuhiro Yamaji as Aramaki, Yuichi Nakamura as Togusa, Kosuke Goto as Ishikawa, Toru Nara as Saito, Maria Oi as Operator, and Tomoko Kaneda as Fuchikoma. The music is by Taisei Iwasaki, Ryo Konishi, and Yuki Kanesaka; the opening theme "GO GHOST" is by King Gnu, and the ending theme "Blue" by Millennium Parade. The production is handled by THE GHOST IN THE SHELL COMMITTEE, which includes Science SARU, Kodansha, and Production I.G., among others.
