The new TV anime series "Ghost in the Shell: The Ghost in the Shell" by Studio Science SARU has released the episode visual for the second episode. The design is by Kano Kameda (maxilla). The episode is titled "SUPER SPARTAN ii + JUNK JUNGLE i" and will air on July 14, 2026, at 11:00 PM on Japanese television on the "Hianibar!!" slot of Kansai TV and Fuji TV. Afterwards, it will be available exclusively on Prime Video from 11:30 PM as part of a subscription, with additional streaming services following from July 15.

The series is based on the manga of the same name by Masamune Shirow, first published in 1989. The story is set in the year 2029 and follows the cyborg special agent Motoko Kusanagi (voiced by Maaya Sakamoto) and her team from Public Security Section 9, also known as "Ghost in the Shell." In the second episode, the unit begins its investigation at the behest of Daisuke Aramaki (Yamaji Kazuhiro). When a virus infiltrates the cyber-brain of the foreign minister's translator, Aramaki suspects sabotage by the exiled Colonel Malès. He tasks Kusanagi and the team with tracking down the perpetrator.

The episode visual is part of a special project where an alternative poster in graphic design is created for each episode. It captures the respective concepts and themes of the episode and presents them in an independent visual form. The series is directed by Moko-chan, the script is by EnJoe Toh, and Shuhei Handa is responsible for character design and chief animation direction. The music is composed by Taisei Iwasaki, Ryo Konishi, and Yuki Kanesaka. The opening theme is "GO GHOST" by King Gnu, and the ending theme is "Blue" by Millennium Parade featuring Saya Gray and Daniel Caesar.

The series premiered on July 7, 2026, on Japanese television. Simultaneously, episode visuals and scene images for the second episode have been released. An exhibition titled "Ghost in the Shell Exhibition" will run from July 17 at the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art, and a retrospective of Masamune Shirow's work is planned from August in Nagoya.
