Another promotional clip has been released for the new film Gintama: Yoshiwara Daienjō (Gintama: The Great Yoshiwara Fire). The footage shows for the first time in detail the clash between the protagonist Sakata Gintoki and the powerful ruler of the Yoshiwara pleasure district.
The newly animated production adapts the popular story arc about the burning Yoshiwara, which covered episodes 139 to 146 in the TV series. Directed by Naoya Ando at Studio BN Pictures, a completely redrawn version of the material is being created, which has not only been visually enhanced. The screenplay is by Taku Kishimoto, while Shinji Takeuchi serves as chief animator and character designer.
The film introduces a character named Enkaku, who did not appear in the original source material. This role is voiced by Kappei Yamaguchi. Additionally, scenes with Katsura Kotaro and members of the Shinsengumi have been integrated, which were also not seen in the original section.
At the center of the story is the underground red-light district Yoshiwara, which has lost its brightness and is marked by the brutal rule of the "King of the Night" named Housen. Gintoki, Shinpachi, and Kagura go there and inevitably become involved in the conflict with the rulers. The film is being released to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the anime adaptation of Hideaki Sorachi's successful manga series.
The film opened in Japanese theaters on February 13, 2026, including in IMAX screenings. An international release date has not yet been announced.
