"Gokigenyou, Ikkyoku Ikaga?" Gets TV Anime Adaptation – Directed by Kaori, Studio Felix Film

The manga series "Gokigenyou, Ikkyoku Ikaga?" (roughly "Good day, how about a game?") by Tsukasa Unohana is being adapted into a TV anime. The publisher Houbunsha announced this on June 26, 2026 – coinciding with the release of the fifth compiled volume. The production is led by Yostar as the primary company. The series has been serialized since 2022 in the manga magazine Manga Time Kirara Carat and tells the story of the shy high school student Sae Kitaoji, who struggles to fit in at an elite girls' school campus. When she secretly plays a mahjong app during lunch break, she is discovered by the universally admired upper-class student Chise Kannan. From this encounter, a friendship develops centered around the popular strategy game – and readers can expect a lighthearted comedy full of typical experiences of mahjong beginners. The animation is handled by Studio Felix Film, which recently produced works such as "Aharen-san wa Hakarenai" and "Aishiteru Game wo Owarasetai." The director is Kaori, who has previously directed series like "Yuyushiki" and "Hoshikuzu Telepath." The series composition is handled by Kazuyuki Fudeyasu, known for "Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu ka?", while Mai Otsuka ("Machikado Mazoku", "Urara Meirochou") designs the characters. Author Tsukasa Unohana expressed great joy: "That 'Gokigenyou, Ikkyoku Ikaga?' gets an anime adaptation makes me really happy! I wanted to create a relaxing mahjong story that is enjoyable even without prior knowledge. Now even more people can experience the characters in motion and with voice – I'm really looking forward to it!" Director Kaori, herself an enthusiastic mahjong player, commented: "When I was offered the job, I was overjoyed that my hobby became my profession. The story is entertaining for both beginners and fans of the game. I hope the audience enjoys watching Sae and her friends play cheerfully."
