They mention that they are waiting for Lieutenant Tsurumi's arrival and express concern that Hijikata and his allies might be in Sapporo.

Meanwhile, Sugimoto and Shiraishi continue their hunt for the tattooed prisoners, hoping to find the remaining pieces of the map leading to the Ainu gold. They follow a lead about a tattooed candy seller, only to discover that the candy seller does not have the tattoos they are looking for.

Later, Sugimoto and his companions find themselves in a deadly battle aboard a steamship. An enemy attacks Sugimoto and tries to shoot him, but Sugimoto throws him overboard to evade the bullet. The situation escalates further when a man with a large anchor challenges Sugimoto to a duel.

During the fight, Sugimoto has a confrontation with one of his enemies, a former convict named Hijikata, who reveals to him that their tattooed map to the Ainu gold will not be complete without every single piece.

Amidst this plotline, we get a glimpse into Sugimoto's past. When asked about his family, he recalls a painful memory of his family dying from tuberculosis. This insight into Sugimoto's past adds depth to his character, allowing the audience to better understand his motivations and explaining why he is so determined to find the Ainu gold.
