In the final episode of this season of "Golden Kamuy," the complex relationships between the various characters are deepened, and Ogata's background and actions are brought to light.

Ogata's past takes center stage as he reflects on his actions in seeking his father's approval. It is revealed that Ogata, in an attempt to win his father's affection, killed his younger brother, whom he saw as a rival. He then killed his father when he failed to receive the longed-for affection. Meanwhile, Tsurumi, who has manipulated both Ogata and his brother for his own gain, emerges as a common enemy for several characters, including Ogata and Hijikata.

Ogata and Usami, connected by their roles in Tsurumi's schemes, share a tense relationship. Usami mocks Ogata in a hospital room for his lack of love and recognition from Tsurumi, angering Ogata. Ogata throws a bedpan at Usami and leaves the hospital to ally with Hijikata against Tsurumi.

The episode also introduces the character Wilk, who has two distinct identities. On one hand, he is Horkew Oskoni, a caring father to Asirpa and a man who advocates for the unity of the Ainu and other minorities. On the other hand, he is Nopperabo, a man involved in murders who forces prisoners to have a code tattooed on them, leading them to a cruel fate.

The theme of the duality of human nature is emphasized through various characters and settings. In this episode, it is portrayed through Ogata's actions and reflections, as well as through the character of Wilk. Additionally, a scene depicting deforestation shows how people can either live sustainably or exploit natural resources for profit.

Asirpa contemplates the consequences of potentially obtaining gold, which could help her people. She is torn between this goal and her relationship with Sugimoto. She is unsure whether acquiring the gold would change her or damage her bond with Sugimoto.

Sugimoto reveals to Asirpa that he plans to return to his childhood love but will first help her achieve her dream. This further complicates Asirpa's decision-making, as she respects and trusts Sugimoto but is also committed to the well-being of her people.

By the end of the episode, the narrative threads highlight the difficult choices the characters face and the uncertainty ahead. The relationships between the characters, their past actions, and their future decisions are central to the plot of this episode and set the stage for the next (and final) season.
