The third season of the anime adaptation of Kenji Inoue and Kimitake Yoshioka's diving comedy "Grand Blue" will air in July. As announced by the anime's official X account, alongside the start date, a teaser visual as well as three new characters and their voice actresses were revealed.
The story about student Iori Kitahara and his chaotic experiences with the diving club "Peek a Boo" will, for the first time in the third season, take place outside of Japan. The plot shifts to the island nation of Palau. The teaser visual shows the main characters Iori, Chisa, and Kohei upon their arrival on the South Sea island.
The new additions to the cast include three characters who will play a role in Palau. Sayaka Kotegawa, the owner of the dolphin branch in Palau and aunt of Iori as well as mother of the Kotegawa sisters, will be voiced by Sayaka Ohara. The branch manager of the dive shop, called "Chief," will be voiced by Asami Seto. The shop employee Maki will be portrayed by Aya Suzaki, who herself holds a diving license.
In official statements, the voice actresses expressed their excitement about their involvement. Sayaka Ohara, who shares the same first name as her character, felt a special connection to the role and praised the familiar atmosphere on set. Asami Seto emphasized her joy, as a diving fan, to be part of the "Grand Blue" world, and highlighted the fast-paced, improvisation-rich banter of the main cast. Aya Suzaki, in turn, was relieved to have her diving license, which was apparently a reason for her casting, and enjoyed portraying the lively Maki.
