The Japanese animated film "Hanarokushou ga Akeru Hi" (When the Flower-Rokusho Dawns) has been selected for the competition of the 76th International Berlin Film Festival. This festival is one of the most significant film festivals worldwide.

The director of the work is Yoshitoshi Shinomiya, for whom it represents his debut as a feature film director. Shinomiya, who also wrote the original story and the screenplay, previously worked as a painter in the Japanese style and collaborated, among others, with the directors Makoto Shinkai and Sunao Katabuchi. The selection of a debut work for the competition is a rarity; it is also the first Japanese film in 33 years to receive this honor.

At the center of the plot is Keitaro, who grows up in a fireworks shop threatened by forced eviction. His goal is to complete a legendary firework named Shuhari. The main roles are voiced by Riku Hagiwara (as Keitaro) and Kotone Furukawa (as Kaoru). The actors expressed their honor at the film's inclusion in the program of the long-standing festival.
