The official website and social media accounts of the anime adaptation of The Rising of the Shield Hero have been updated with the premiere date for the second season of the series. The anime's continuation will air on Japanese television on April 6.

Outside of Japan, the second season, like the first anime, will be available on Crunchyroll. The first season of the anime aired from January to June 2019 and consisted of 25 episodes.

Masato Jinbo is directing the second season at Kinema Citrus and DR MOVIE, replacing Takao Abo. Keigo Koyanagi is once again responsible for series composition. Masahiro Suwa will again adapt Seira Minami's original character designs for the animation. Kevin Penkin returns to compose the music. MADKID will kick off the second season with the opening song "Bring Back." It was also announced that Chiai Fujikawa will perform the ending song "Yuzurenai."

Yusagi Aneko has been writing and Seira Minami illustrating the fantasy light novel Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari since 2012. Kadokawa publishes this work under the MF Bunko imprint, with 22 volumes released in Japan so far.
