Funimation and the Japanese television station Fuji TV have announced a joint premiere of Science SARU's next TV anime, The Heike Story, based on the novel by Hideo Furukawa. The anime will air in January 2022 on Fuji TV's Ultra programming block. The official announcement website also revealed the cast members and the first promotional video.

Naoko Yamada (director) will helm the anime alongside Reiko Yoshida (screenwriter) and Kensuke Ushio (music composer).

Furukawa's novel presents the classic Japanese epic The Tale of the Heike in a modern translation. The original epic depicts the rise and fall of the Taira clan during the Genpei War. The TV anime centers on Biwa, a girl who tells stories and meets Taira no Shigemori, the heir of his clan, ultimately giving him a prophecy about the downfall of his clan.
