The episode begins with Helck's return from the Demon Lord's castle, where he encounters Azudra, one of the four elite lords of the empire. Azudra explains that the demonkin are not responsible for the monster attacks on the human kingdom. The fortress Helck visited was meant to prevent the monsters from spawning, and the recent siege disrupted this function. Azudra also reveals that the demonkin once lived in harmony with humans and wish to restore this friendship.

Helck returns to the royal capital, where he finds his mercenary friends Alicia and Edil in a tense situation. During a monster attack, the nobles closed the gates and forced the mercenaries into a battle they could no longer retreat from. Helck learns that many soldiers and mercenaries have died as a result of this decision.

The kingdom captures some surviving demons from the battle against the Demon Lord and treats them cruelly. Helck intervenes and urges the crowd to stop the abuse. This turns the crowd against him, branding him a heretic. One of the captive demons warns Helck about the "power of the New World" lurking among humans.

Lord Raphaed, a mysterious figure, appears and manipulates the situation to make the demons appear evil. He transforms the captive demons into monsters, reinforcing the belief in the demonkin's malevolence. Despite this, Helck remains skeptical about the true nature of the demonkin.

The kingdom announces the development of a technique called "Awakening," which can artificially enhance human abilities. This reduces the number of casualties from monster attacks and improves the kingdom's situation. However, Helck is still doubtful about the demonkin and decides to confide in his friends.

The episode ends with Helck inviting Alicia to a restaurant to talk about his concerns.
