The manga series "High School! Kimengumi" by Motoei Shinzawa is being realized as an animation production in an updated version. The original appeared at the beginning of the 1980s in a shonen magazine.

The plot focuses on five youths with pronounced personalities, who together attend a middle school. Through their conspicuous behavior, they are perceived by their surroundings as an idiosyncratic group. Two female classmates develop into important reference persons for the clique.

The artistic direction of the production is taken over by Kazuaki Seki, who was previously known primarily for music video productions. The screenplay is designed by Shigeru Murakoshi, while Yuka Abe is responsible for the visual character development. The animated realization is carried out by Studio Seven.

The dubbing of the main characters is handled by established voice actors. The male characters are interpreted by voices such as Tomokazu Seki and Shunsuke Takeuchi. The female roles are cast with seiyū such as Haruka Shiraishi and Ikumi Hasegawa.

For the announcement of the production, a first key visual was published, showing the protagonists in a modern design. Likewise, a newly recorded version of the well-known theme song from the earlier adaptation was presented.
