The anticipation among fans of Rasuko Ōkuma's manga Hoshikuzu Telepath is growing, as the official Twitter account of Houbunsha's Manga Time Kirara magazine recently announced that the TV anime adaptation will premiere in October.
Hoshikuzu Telepath tells the story of Umika, a shy girl who struggles with communication and making friends. Her life takes an unexpected turn when Yū, an exchange student who happens to be an alien with the ability to read others' feelings by touching their forehead, arrives. This unique premise has captured the interest of manga fans since its debut in Houbunsha's Manga Time Kirara magazine in May 2019, with serialization beginning in July of the same year.
The anime adaptation will be directed by Kaori, known for her work on Yuyushiki and The Quintessential Quintuplets ∬, at Studio Gokumi. The series' scripts will be written by Kaori and Natsuko Takahashi, while Takahiro Sakai is in charge of character design and serves as chief animation director. Yurie Funato and Seria Fukagawa have been cast in the lead roles of Umika Konohoshi and Yū Akeuchi, respectively.
In 2021, Hoshikuzu Telepath was nominated for best print manga at the 7th "Next Manga Awards" (Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Taishō), highlighting the series' growing popularity and appeal.
