The anime adaptation of the manga "Ikoku Nikki" (English: "A Different World Diary", German: "Tagebuch einer fremden Welt") by Tomoko Yamashita will begin its television broadcast in January 2026.

The series tells the story of the shy novelist Makio Kodai and her niece Asa Takumi, a teenager who lost her parents in an accident. The plot deals with their shared life together, which begins despite their different personalities and age differences.

The main roles are prominently cast: The experienced voice Miyuki Sawashiro voices Makio Kodai. Fūko Mori, for whom it is her first leading role in an anime production, takes on the role of Asa Takumi.

Behind the implementation is the animation studio Shuka, known for works such as the "Natsume's Book of Friends" series. The direction is by Miyuki Ōshiro, the screenplay is written by Kōhei Kiyasu. Kenji Hayama is responsible for the characteristic look of the characters as character designer. The musical accompaniment is by the composer Kensuke Ushio.

Appropriate to the announcement, the first key visual and a first trailer were also released. The trailer already provides insights into the voices of the main characters and the atmosphere of the series. The key visual shows an everyday scene from the shared life of the two dissimilar characters.

Those responsible also gave their comments on the project. Director Miyuki Ōshiro expressed her joy that the animation adaptation of her favorite work could finally be realized after long preparation. She emphasized that they want to preserve the special aftertaste of the original, but also use the independent possibilities of the anime medium.

Composer Kensuke Ushio described his personal engagement with the story and how his perspective on it has changed over the years. His goal is to be close to all participants and viewers with the music.

The manga "Ikoku Nikki" by Tomoko Yamashita was published between 2017 and 2023 in the magazine "FEEL YOUNG" by the publisher Shodensha and comprises eleven collected volumes.
