The team behind the original TV anime "Kaze wo Tsugu Mono" ("Inherit the Winds") has released a new illustration from its "Four Seasons" series: The "Summer" illustration shows Shinpachi Nagakura and Sanosuke Harada fishing by a riverbank, while Heisuke Tōdō eats a watermelon and Kurosuke snaps at a fish. Accompanying this, the short story "Tōdō to Kawatarō" was published, written by Yutaka Narii, author of the original work and screenplay, specifically to match the illustration. The story is available on the official website and via the anime's official social media channels, and tells an episode from the daily life of Nagakura, Tōdō, and Harada. Already in April, the team had released the first part of the seasonal series with the "Spring" illustration.

"Kaze wo Tsugu Mono" is an original television series by Aniplex, animated by the studios Live2D Creative Studio and Drive. Directed by Tomohiro Kawamura, who previously directed, among others, the film "GAMBA – Gamba to Nakama-tachi"; the screenplay is by Yutaka Narii, founder of the theater group Caramel Box, whose stage plays around the "Tachikawa-Jinsuke series" serve as a loose basis for the anime. The music is by Shigeru Kishida, singer and guitarist of the band Quruli, who thus contributes music to a TV anime series for the first time; the character designs are by Fumi Ebina. Technically, the production combines Live2D animations with classic cel animations.

The story begins in June 1863: A young man without memories is brought to the lodging of the Mibu-Rōshigumi in Kyoto. Assistant officer Sōji Okita takes him in and gives him the name Jinsuke Tachikawa. As the group becomes the Shinsengumi amid the turmoil of the Bakumatsu period, Jinsuke and his comrades are increasingly drawn into the whirlwind of events.

The main role of Jinsuke Tachikawa is voiced by Daisuke Sakuma of the idol group Snow Man. The rest of the cast includes Yūki Kaji as Sōji Okita, Aoi Yūki as Hyōgo Koganei, Kōki Uchiyama as Toshizō Hijikata, Yūichi Nakamura as Isami Kondō, Ryōhei Kimura as Shinpachi Nagakura, Ayumu Murase as Heisuke Tōdō, Simba Tsuchiya as Sanosuke Harada, and Nichika Ōmori as Kurosuke.

The anime starts in January 2027 in the "Agaru Anime" programming block of the JNN network with 28 stations, including CBC and TBS; it will be broadcast every Sunday at 23:30. A theatrical preview version is already planned for 2026. Additionally, a four-part manga adaptation by Matsuri Muramatsu has been announced, to be published from 2026 via Kōdansha's X account "Twi4" and the website Saizensen. At the Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair 2026, a stage event is planned for September 19, with Yūki Kaji and Kōki Uchiyama expected to appear.
