Masaaki Yuasa (Ping Pong the Animation) is directing the anime at Science Saru, and Akiko Nogi (I am a Hero live-action) is writing the script.

GKIDS has licensed the film and describes its story:

INU-OH is born with unique physical characteristics, and the horrified adults cover every inch of his body with garments, including a mask for his face. One day, he meets a boy named Tomona, a blind biwa player, and as Tomona plays a delicate song about tangled fate, INU-OH discovers an incredible ability to dance.

INU-OH and Tomona become business partners and inseparable friends, using their creative talents to survive on the fringes of society while song after song brings them fame and stardom. With his songs, INU-OH captivates his audience on stage and gradually transforms into a person of unparalleled beauty. But why is Tomona blind? Why was INU-OH born with unique traits? It is a story about the friendship of INU-OH and Tomona, who dance and sing to uncover the truth and break each other's curse.
