The trio—Gabimaru, Gantetsusai, and Fuchi—are all fugitives who were previously searching for the elixir of life in order to receive a pardon from the shogun. However, Gabimaru and Gantetsusai have different motivations: Gabimaru wants to save his wife from her father by earning a pardon, while Gantetsusai seeks to build a legendary reputation through his deeds. Fuchi, on the other hand, is driven by curiosity and wants to learn more about the Tensen.

Senta provides crucial information about the island they are on. The island was believed to be Shinsenkyo, a legendary paradise on earth, but Senta reveals that it is not. As it turns out, the island is home to numerous man-made structures and creatures originating from various human-made religions. Senta deduces this from the incompatible mix of religious elements present on the island.

Hoko, a native of the island, shares insights about the island's history. He reveals that the people lived peacefully until about 1,000 years ago, when the Tensen appeared. There are rumors that the Tensen may have split off from a single primordial being.

A figure named Moro Makiya is mentioned as someone who led a religion with a similar blend of beliefs as those found on the island. Moro Makiya was previously known as a criminal who was interrogated by another figure, Yuzuriha, to extract information.

Later in the episode, the concept of Tao is introduced, explained by Hoko as the force that flows through all things, akin to a life force. Tao is used for various purposes, including strengthening the body and altering physical form, as seen with the Tensen. It is suggested that Tao is a fundamental element of the powers wielded by the Tensen and could be crucial for the characters if they hope to defeat them.

It is shown that Shion uses a form of Tao to sense his surroundings. He refers to this as perceiving the "waves" of objects around him.

There is also a discussion about Tan, the local term for the elixir of life—a substance produced by the Tensen through the sacrifice of humans. It remains unclear, but it is hinted that Tan might be Tao in liquid form, which enhances a person's Tao when consumed.

At the end of the episode, the newly formed alliance of Gabimaru, Gantetsusai, and Fuchi prepares to venture deeper into the island with the information they've gathered. They resolve to confront the Tensen and uncover the secrets surrounding the island and the elixir of life.
