An excerpt from the upcoming issue of Weekly Young Jump magazine reveals that Aka Akasaka's manga Kaguya-sama: Love is War (Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen) has surpassed 16.5 million copies in circulation. The next volume is still scheduled for release on August 18, 2021.
The manga has also inspired two spin-off manga series and a 12-episode anime adaptation, produced by A-1 Pictures and directed by Shinichi Omata, which premiered in January 2019. A second season of 12 episodes aired in April 2020, and a third season is currently in production.
The manga is described as follows:
"At the prestigious Shuchiin Academy, Miyuki Shirogane and Kaguya Shinomiya are the elite of the student body. Miyuki, regarded as the top student in the nation and respected by peers and mentors alike, serves as the student council president. By his side is vice president Kaguya—eldest daughter of the wealthy Shinomiya family—who excels in every conceivable field. They are the envy of the entire student body and considered the perfect couple.
However, though they have already developed feelings for each other, neither is willing to admit them. The first to confess loses, is scorned, and deemed the lesser. With their pride and honor at stake, Miyuki and Kaguya are equally determined to emerge victorious on the battlefield of love!"
