The second season of the anime adaptation of Shigeru Sagazaki's light novel series "Katainaka no Ossan, Kensei ni Naru" (From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman) has unveiled further details. On June 29, 2026, the production team released a special action clip from the new season and announced four new voice actor roles.

The newcomers strengthen the ensemble of the second season: Takashi Kondo lends his voice to Hanoi Cressa, the pragmatic leader of the mercenary group Verdeapis. Hiromu Mineta voices the agile duelist Kuriu Raiberg, Manami Uchida plays the nature mage Prim, and Hiroshi Yanaka portrays the enigmatic church leader Maurice Pashushka. Their roles were introduced during a livestream event called "TV Asahi New Anime Fest – Summer 2026."

The released action clip shows excerpts from the first episode, titled "The Old Country Bumpkin Takes on a New Job." It depicts protagonist Beryl Gardenant, voiced by Hiroaki Hirata, being appointed as a guest lecturer at the Magic Academy and having to measure himself against his former student Fissel. The footage highlights the high choreographic quality of the fights, produced by studios Passione and Hayabusa Film.

The series is based on the light novels by Shigeru Sagazaki (illustrations: Tetsuhiro Nabeshima), which have been published on the platform Shosetsuka ni Naro since November 2020 and appear in print form (SQEX Novel) from Square Enix. Including the manga adaptation and spin-offs, over ten million copies have been sold. The first season aired from April to June 2025 on Japanese television.

The second season starts on July 8, 2026, on TV Asahi's "IMAnimation W" slot, as well as on BS Asahi and AT-X. Internationally, the series will be streamed exclusively via Amazon Prime Video, with the stream starting one day later, on July 9. The opening theme is by the band Unicorn ("Kurenai no Ha"), and the ending theme by BLUE ENCOUNT ("Mikansei"). Other main roles are taken on by Nao Toyama (Allusia Citrus), Hitomi Ueda (Slena Lisandera), and many others from the first season. A mysterious new character, the so-called "White Maiden," will also be introduced in the second season; her voice actor will initially be kept secret.
