At the beginning of the episode, it is shown how Ganta finds solace in Isaki's radio broadcasts and is lulled to sleep by them. However, Ganta's dreams are not a respite but rather remind him of an evidently turbulent past. There are hints of difficulties in his family life, with an absent mother and a possibly alcoholic father. Yet these details about Ganta's past remain obscured.

In contrast to Ganta's struggles, the other characters enjoy their summer with various activities, such as comparing their talents, secretly eating a cooler lunch in the student council room, and playful flirting. Tai provides insights into Ganta's childhood and describes him as "the same, but different."

The episode continues with the cancellation of the meteor-watching party due to rain. This setback hits Ganta hard, especially since he feels responsible for the turn of events. His guilt becomes evident as he runs into the rain without an umbrella.

While their teacher, Kurashiki-sensei, goes to a restaurant with the rest of the group to celebrate an afterparty, Shiromaru sets out to search for Ganta. Isaki also decides to look for Ganta and finds him by the river, away from the school. In a bus shelter, Ganta breaks down and expresses his frustration that his efforts always seem to end in disaster.

Isaki then uses her radio broadcast to deliver a comforting message to Ganta. This special broadcast reaches Ganta and assures him that he is important to her. This moment is interrupted by Yui, who finds the two in the shelter, leaving the viewer to wonder what might have happened if she had arrived later.
