Kingdom S5 - Episode 7

This episode sheds light on the history of the city-state of Liyǎn, its turbulent past, and the events that led to its current state. Fifteen years ago, the city was locked in a bitter struggle with Anhe for regional dominance. Under the just leadership of Ji Chang, Liyǎn resisted the iron rule of Tang Han in Anhe. Though outnumbered, Liyǎn's capable forces, bolstered by Ji Chang's leadership and the brave efforts of rising stars Ji Hui, Liu Dong, and Mǎ Cheng, turned the tide in their favor.

The episode recounts the decisive Battle of Danhu, where Liyǎn's determination and strategic prowess led to victory despite facing an army five times their size. After the battle, Liyǎn's fortress city was tragically destroyed in a surprise attack by Tang Han's son, Tang Jun, with women, children, and the elderly taken captive. In a desperate attempt to save them, Ji Chang surrendered himself along with his officers and men to Tang Jun, sacrificing himself for the safety of his people.

Ji Hui, the son of Ji Chang, witnessed this heartbreaking event, marking a turning point in his life. Despite the overwhelming loss, Ji Hui was determined to restore Liyǎn's power. Under his leadership, Liyǎn not only regained its strength but also witnessed the surrender of Anhe, uniting the region under Ji Hui's just rule.

The episode also touches on the present: Qiang Lei becomes acquainted with the Liyǎn Guardians, a traditional amulet symbolizing the protection fathers provide their children in battle. Meanwhile, Fei Xin's forces find themselves in a dire situation as they face the overwhelming military might of Qing She's army. By the episode's end, anticipation builds for the next day's battle, which promises to be the toughest yet in Heiyong, setting the stage for a decisive confrontation.
