The Crone confesses that she isolated Sullivan, bound her feet, and created the village of Wolfsschlucht as a controlled environment to exploit her genius for military purposes. Sullivan collapses under the weight of betrayal, especially when Wolfram, her supposed protector, is exposed as part of the project.

Ciel confronts Sullivan with a choice: flee and live to use her knowledge for medicine, or disappear into the forest. Sullivan chooses to fight and escapes with Ciel's group.
