Meanwhile, Gaoshun involves Maomao in a new investigation regarding a case of food poisoning caused by the consumption of raw pufferfish. Despite her reservations about whether her involvement is appropriate, Gaoshun reassures her, while Jinshi expresses his desire to participate in the investigation.

Maomao and Basen visit the kitchen of the poisoning victim. There, Maomao discovers unusually fresh seaweed, which serves as a crucial clue. The investigation is interrupted by the victim’s younger brother, who seems eager to hasten their departure, thereby drawing suspicion onto himself.

Maomao concludes that the seaweed from the south contains poison, which can be neutralized by soaking it in limewater. She attempts a test with a sample soaked in regular water, but Jinshi intervenes to prevent her from eating it.

Based on Maomao’s findings, officials are sent back to the victim’s house to obtain a confession from the younger brother, who admits to poisoning his brother out of jealousy and ambition.

Although the case is solved, Maomao is more preoccupied with her strange fascination with insect fungi and displays a moody demeanor. Her interaction with Jinshi leads to an amusing and awkward moment that highlights the lighter side of their relationship.
