Kyoto Animation has established its new label Kyoani Muse Labo and announced its first product: a picture book with a music CD titled "Hagure Star no Uta." With this initiative, Kyoto Animation is taking a step away from traditional animated films toward a unique picture book experience.

"Hagure Star no Uta" is crafted by the creators of Kyoto Animation, with music by Evan Call, known for his work on "Violet Evergarden." The concept behind this project is to break away from conventional anime production and explore new creative paths. The picture book includes a CD with 13 tracks, all composed by Evan Call and recorded with a full orchestra in Hungary. The orchestral music is designed to complement and enrich the world of the picture book.

The project’s director is Taichi Ishidate, known for directing "Violet Evergarden." Ishidate expressed his enthusiasm for the project: "We have created this work with great care, imagining that everyone can enjoy and immerse themselves in this world. I sincerely hope that 'Hagure Star no Uta' will enrich your moments." The illustrations are by Shiho Yamazaki, a promising artist at Kyoto Animation responsible for the artistic backgrounds of anime. The story was written by Ayano Sato, who has previously written scripts for the "Free!" series.

The story follows a boy named Lazuli who meets Eden and communicates through "songs," offering a narrative that provides a small helping hand for tomorrow’s life. The book’s storytelling is designed to be a helpful and enriching experience for the reader.
