The highly anticipated new anime series from Kyoto Animation, 'Twenty Century Electric Catalog – Eureka Evrika' (Japanese: 'Nijusseiki Denki Mokuroku – Eureka Evrika'), premieres on July 5, 2026. Its official English title is 'Sparks of Tomorrow'. The series is based on the light novel of the same name by Hiro Yuki, published in 2018 under the KA Esuma Bunko imprint, which received an honorable mention at the 8th Kyoto Animation Awards.

The first episode is titled 'The Electric Boy' (Japanese: 'Denki Shonen'). It tells the story of young Kihachi Sakamoto, who, together with his older brother Seiroku, dreamed of an age of electricity and recorded his inventions in a book called the '20th Century Electricity Catalog'. After losing his brother in war and the book, Kihachi falls into despair. However, a chance encounter with Inako Momokawa, the daughter of a sake brewer, brings the lost catalog to light again and reignites his dream. At the same time, the book is coveted by the wealthy heir Yosuke Mitsue, who plans a forced marriage with Inako.

To celebrate the series launch, several events will take place on July 5: At 8:00 PM (JST), there will be a livestream on Pony Canyon's YouTube channel featuring voice actors Yuma Uchida (Kihachi), Sora Amamiya (Inako), Yo Daichi (Suzu Harashima), and Natsumi Kawaida (Kate Okura). Additionally, in collaboration with the Keihan Group, the Nidec Kyoto Tower will be illuminated in yellow and red from sunset to midnight, while the Yokohama Marine Tower will glow red from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

The series is directed by Minoru Ota, making his directorial debut. The screenplay is written by Tatsuhiko Urahata (known for works such as 'Violet Evergarden'), character design is by Kohei Okamura, and world-building by Takaaki Suzuki. The music is composed by Hitomi Koto, who handles the film score for an anime series for the first time. The opening theme is performed by Luna Goami with the title 'Eureka Evrika', and the ending theme by Ginger Root with 'Soarin''. Animation production is handled by Kyoto Animation.

In addition to the main cast, other roles have been filled: Koki Uchiyama as Yosuke Mitsue, Daisuke Ono as Seiroku Sakamoto, Shunsuke Takeuchi as Kengo Kuga, Minako Kotobuki as Noriko Momokawa, as well as Hiroshi Yanaka, Mayumi Asano, Daichi Endo, and Ayahi Takagaki. The series will air on TOKYO MX, BS11, ABC TV, and TV Aichi, and will be available simultaneously worldwide exclusively on Netflix.

This work represents a stylistic innovation for Kyoto Animation: the background art evokes impressionist paintings, emphasizing the unique atmosphere of the alternative steam age.
