The psychological manga masterpiece Liar Game by Shinobu Kaitani will receive an anime adaptation in 2026. The production will be handled by the renowned studio Madhouse.
The plot revolves around the always trusting student Nao Kanzaki, who is involuntarily drawn into the so-called "Liar Game" – a competition in which participants attempt to win large sums of money through deception and fraud, while losses lead to crushing debts. To overcome these challenges, she enlists the help of the experienced con man Shinichi Akiyama.
Behind the adaptation is an experienced team: Yuzo Sato (known for Kaiji and One Outs) takes on the role of Chief Director. The direction is handled by Asami Kawano, while Tatsuhiko Urahata is responsible for the script and series composition. The character design is by Kei Tsuchiya.
Original author Shinobu Kaitani commented on the 20th anniversary of his work and emphasized the enduring relevance of the core questions of trust and deception in today's world, shaped by social media and global crises.
The manga was published between 2005 and 2015 in the magazine Weekly Young Jump and has already received several live-action adaptations, including television series and feature films.
