The production company VAP announced on Saturday an anime adaptation of Hiru Kuma's light novel Jidou Hanbaiki ni Umarekawatta Ore wa Meikyuu wo Samayou (Reborn as a Vending Machine, Now I Wander the Dungeon).

Hiru Kuma began writing the comedy-fantasy series in March 2016 on the website Shousetsuka ni Narou. Kadokawa started publishing the light novel with illustrations by Itsuwa Katou under its Sneaker Bunko imprint in August of the same year. The third volume was released in February 2017.

The teaser video for the announcement below begins with a narrator introducing a fantasy world that has been "saved countless times by reincarnated people," then remarks in surprise that the fate of this fantasy world now lies in the hands of a vending machine.

Yen Press describes the story as follows:

A middle-aged man with only one passion in life meets a fitting end in a traffic accident. At this point, most stories would conclude—but instead, his tale begins as he is reborn as the thing he admired most in life: a vending machine! Yet his new life(?) starts in the worst possible place—what can a vending machine do in a monster-infested dungeon when it can’t speak or move on its own?
