As part of the "Sneaker Bunko 35th Anniversary Festa!" event, it was recently announced that the light novel series by Yu Hibari and illustrator Siso will be adapted into an anime. The series, with the rather complicated title "The Neat and Beautiful Girl at My New School Was My Childhood Friend Whom I Thought Was a Boy and I Played Together With," originally gained popularity in 2020 on the website Shōsetsuka ni Narō ("Let's Become Novelists"). Later, it secured a publishing deal with Kadokawa in 2021, and by December 2022, even the sixth volume was released.
The story, described as a romantic youth comedy, follows Hayato, a young man who transfers to a new high school in the city. He is pleasantly surprised to reunite with Haruki, a friend from seven years ago. However, Hayato soon discovers that Haruki, whom he always thought was a boy, is actually a girl.
Both Siso and Kina Ōyama, the artist responsible for the manga adaptation, contributed illustrations to announce the anime adaptation.
