Live-Action Film "Wandance": Trailer, Teaser Visual, and Theme Song by &TEAM Revealed

The teaser visual and a first long trailer for the live-action film "Wandance" have been released. At the same time, the theme song has been announced: The boy group &TEAM contributes "For us," marking their first film song. The track is already audible in the new preview video and will be released digitally on August 1 at 0:00 Japan time. The teaser visual shows protagonist Kabo dancing by the sea, accompanied by the slogans "But I dance" and "This beat changes me." At the bottom, stills of the characters Kabo, Wanda, On, Iori, Kabe, and Usen are gathered. The trailer thus offers a deeper insight into the plot for the first time: It opens with a scene in which Kabo looks with tears in his eyes at a person – at Wanda, who dances completely carefree. "The days when I was left breathless – in that moment, this beat changed me," says the voice-over. Later, Kabo fights his way through dance studios, competitions, and battles against rivals like Kabe and Usen. Music plays a central role in the film. The music team, consisting of artists from the Tokyo label origami PRODUCTIONS (Shingo Suzuki, mabanua, Shingo Sekiguchi, Kan Sano, Michael Kaneko, Nenashi a.k.a. Hiro-a-Key) and the sound collective GuruConnect, which already contributed to director Naoya Kusaba's earlier film "Yukiko a.k.a.," wrote more than 20 original pieces for the film. In the trailer, "Lights" by Shingo Sekiguchi and "Step by Step feat. Sagiri Sól, Fujita Oriya" by mabanua can be heard first, before the theme song "For us" kicks in in the second half. The song was written specifically for the work; among those involved in its production are Soma Genda, who has shaped &TEAM's music since their debut, as well as Kanata Okajima and knoak. JO sings the beginning and end of the piece. "The lyrics reflect the protagonist's emotional world – an emotional song with the powerful message of finding one's own path," the group comments. JO, who according to his own words sang the title with the same emotions as when acting, says: "The lyrics were the protagonist's life itself, so I could sing with a lot of feeling, as if I were playing a role." Already on July 30, JO also opened his personal Instagram account. The film is based on the manga by Coffee, which has been serialized in Kodansha's "Monthly Afternoon" since January 2019 and has reached 15 compiled volumes. In 2025, the source material was also adapted as a twelve-episode anime series by Madhouse and Cyclone Graphics. The story follows high school student Kaboku Kotani, called Kabo, who always holds back his feelings because of his stutter. When he observes Hikari Wanda dancing at night, he decides to dive into the world of dance himself. Direction is by Naoya Kusaba, the screenplay by Keiichi Kobayashi; the dance choreography is handled by Charisma Kantaro. In addition to JO (&TEAM) as Kabo, the cast includes Anji Ikehata (Wanda), Kira Yamaguchi from Girls² (On), RAN from MAZZEL (Iori), TSUKKI (Kabe), and Aloha Takamatsu from Bullet Train (Usen), as well as Furukawa Kanji. Production and distribution are handled by Happinet Phantom Studios. The film will be released in Japanese theaters on November 27, 2026.
