The Singaporean production company Cubix signed a contract with the Japanese licensing company AIC on October 30 for a potential live-action adaptation of the sci-fi classic Bubblegum Crisis. Cubix will invest several billion yen into the project and aims for a release in 2011.

The original Bubblegum Crisis series was released in Japan from 1987 to 1991 and spawned several sequels and spin-offs. In 1998, a remake of the storyline titled Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040 aired as a 26-episode TV series on Japanese television.

Furthermore, there are indications that, in addition to the live-action adaptation, a new anime series for Bubblegum Crisis is in the works.
