The official main trailer for the film "Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend" (Japanese: "Seishun Buta Yarō wa Diafurendo no Yume o Minai"), the concluding chapter of the popular "AoButa" anime series, has been released. The film hits Japanese theaters on October 16, 2026, and resolves the final mysteries surrounding the phenomenon of "Adolescence Syndrome," which has shaped the storyline since the first TV series in 2018.

The trailer reveals key scenes of the final conflict for the first time: The beloved actress Mai Sakurajima discloses that she is actually the mysterious internet singer Toko Kirishima—a revelation that triggers a chain of seemingly impossible events. Protagonist Sakuta Azusagawa receives a message from an alternate version of himself: "Stop Toko Kirishima before reality is overwritten."

Alongside the trailer, the production team announces a "special visual" for June 16, which will be displayed on a large scale on the exterior wall of Bic Camera Fujisawa in Kanagawa from that day until October 31. Starting June 19, moviegoers across Japan can purchase advance tickets featuring an A5-sized clear card adorned with the special visual.

The "AoButa" series is based on the light novels by Hajime Kamoshida (illustrations by Keji Mizoguchi), which have sold over 3 million copies in total. Following the first TV series "Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai" (2018), several films were released, including "Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl" (2019) and most recently the TV series "Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus" (2025), which covers the university arc. The new film serves as the climax and conclusion of the entire story.

The main roles are once again voiced by Kaito Ishikawa (Sakuta Azusagawa), Asami Seto (Mai Sakurajima), and other familiar voices from previous productions. The animation is once again handled by CloverWorks under the direction of Soichi Masui, with the screenplay written by Masahiro Yokotani, character design by Satomi Tamura, and music by fox capture plan.
