The light novel series “Mamono Tsukai no Musume” (English title: Heir to a Monstermancer) by author Amato Damu and illustrator Shirabii is being adapted into a TV anime. On July 3, 2026, producer Hakuhodo DY Music & Pictures released the official announcement along with a teaser visual, main cast, and production team.

The story follows young Leen, a descendant of the legendary original witch Lingreen, who possesses the ability to tame any monster. When she rescues the severely injured adventurer Hakura in a deep forest, he joins her as a bodyguard. Together with the slime-like companion Ao, they embark on a journey that includes both serious and humorous encounters with humans and monsters. The author describes the work as a mix of road movie and fantasy.

The main roles are taken by voice actors already known from the promotional video: Manaka Iwami voices Leen, Chiaki Kobayashi voices Hakura, and Akio Otsuka voices the slime Ao. The director is Chihiro Kumano, known for the anime series “Odekake Kozame”. Satoru Sugizawa is in charge of series composition (including “Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective”), and the character design is by Akane Kasasagi. The animation production is handled by Studio Project No.9.

The source material was originally published as a web novel on the platform Shōsetsuka ni Narō from November 2016 to April 2024 and won the Grand Prize of the 2nd Drecom Media Awards in 2024. Since December 2024, the series has been released as a light novel by publisher Drecom under the imprint DRE Novels, illustrated by Shirabii. The third volume, titled “Mamono Tsukai no Musume 3 – Ikakujū no Shukusai” (Unicorn Festival), is scheduled to go on sale on July 10, 2026. A manga adaptation, drawn by Yū Satō, will start in September 2026 on the platform Drecomi+.

The anime is announced for winter 2027 (January course); a specific broadcast date is still pending. Author Amato Damu expressed his overwhelming joy: “That my childhood dream is now becoming a reality is thanks to the many supporters. The team is working with full dedication – please wait a little longer for the new beginning of Leen and Hakura’s journey.” Director Kumano also expressed his excitement: “The world has an indescribable, dreamlike magic. I want to portray its beauty and cruelty as a hymn to nature.”

The official website and X account of the project are already online. Further details about the additional episodes are expected to follow in the coming months.
