On Thursday, Shogakukan announced an anime adaptation of the seinen manga Blue Giant by Shinichi Ishizuka. The film will hit Japanese theaters in 2022. A special illustration (above), drawn by the manga artist to commemorate the announcement of the anime film, features the three main characters from the first story arc.
"BLUE GIANT" is the story of a boy, Dai Miyamoto, who is fascinated by jazz and wants to become the best jazz player in the world. The work was serialized in Big Comic (Shogakukan) in 2013 and was published in 10 volumes. The manga won third place in the 2016 Manga Grand Prix, the 62nd Shogakukan Manga Award in the General Readers category, and the Grand Prize in the Manga category at the 20th Japan Media Arts Festival. The second part of the series, "BLUE GIANT SUPREME," was published between 2016 and 2020.
