In the current issue of the culture magazine Freestyle, the annual reader survey on the outstanding manga series of the year was published. The award is led by a series dedicated to an unusual scientific topic.

The first place in the ranking "THE BEST MANGA 2026 Kono Manga wo Yome!" is taken by the work "Kaijuu wo Kaibou suru" by Saitou Mado. The plot of this series follows a researcher who examines the corpse of a giant monster and is published in the magazine Comic Beam. The same series was also listed in the separate category of the survey "Kono Manga ga Sugoi!" for male readers.

In second place follows "Iemori Kitan", based on an original story by Nashiki Kaho and drawn by Kondou Youko.

The third place was secured by the manga "Sukima" by Gao Yan. This work, which simultaneously achieved second place in the "Kono Manga ga Sugoi!" survey for female readers, tells an autobiographically inspired story. The plot follows a student from Taiwan during her exchange year in the Japanese prefecture of Okinawa and addresses personal memories as well as historical references. The title of the work alludes to the Japanese word for "gap" or "space in between".

Overall, the honored list comprises twenty different manga titles.
