MANGA TALENT competition for young artists enters its 10th round

Next year, Leipziger Messe, in collaboration with Carlsen Verlag, will once again search for the most talented up-and-coming manga artists.

The "Manga Talents 2011" competition is open to all artists aged ten and above, who can submit their own illustrations and comic stories. The submission period runs until October 31, 2010.

The competition is divided into four categories, categorized by single image or story and age.

Category I: Single image, up to and including 14 years, one DIN A4 page (theme "Cherry Blossoms – The Magic of Japan")

Category II: Single image, 15 years and above, one DIN A4 page (theme "Cherry Blossoms – The Magic of Japan")

Category III: Story, up to and including 14 years, 8 DIN A4 pages + 1 cover page (theme "Japan-Germany – So Far and Yet So Close")

Category IV: Story, 15 years and above, 16 DIN A4 pages + 1 cover page (theme "Japan-Germany – So Far and Yet So Close")

This year’s theme for single images, "Cherry Blossoms – The Magic of Japan," invites artists to focus on the "cherry blossom festival" – that time in spring when Japan traditionally celebrates the beauty of cherry trees. The multi-page manga stories revolve around the theme "Japan-Germany – So Far and Yet So Close," exploring topics such as friendship and relationships, student exchanges, or travel.

Illustrations may be in color or black and white, must follow the Japanese right-to-left reading direction, and must be suitable for a youth audience.

Submissions should be sent to: Leipziger Messe GmbH
