Masashi Kishimoto has revealed that a new one-shot manga about Naruto Uzumaki's father, Minato Namikaze, will appear in the 33rd issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, scheduled for release on July 18. This marks Kishimoto's first one-shot for the magazine in seven years.

The 33rd issue of Weekly Shonen Jump magazine will also celebrate the publication's 55th anniversary. The last one-shot Kishimoto presented in the magazine was "Naruto Gaiden Michita Tsuki ga Terasu Michi" (Naruto Side Story: The Path That the Waxing Moon Illuminates), released in April 2016.

Minato Namikaze, the character at the center of the upcoming one-shot, recently won the global character popularity poll "Narutop 99." This poll was conducted to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Naruto series.

Kishimoto concluded his main Naruto series in November 2014 after 15 years of serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump. Following this, he wrote the one-volume sequel manga Naruto: The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring, contributing to the script and character designs while also overseeing the production of the film sequel Boruto: Naruto the Movie.

The Naruto franchise has expanded into numerous TV anime series, anime films, and original video anime. To celebrate the series' 20th anniversary, four new episodes of the Naruto TV anime will air starting in September. Additionally, in October, Studio Pierrot released a retrospective video recap of 20 years of Naruto anime history, titled "Road of Naruto," which also includes brand-new animation footage.
